Jedediah was a marauding pilot in the Outback who traded stolen goods at Bartertown. He flew The Flying Jalopy and had a son, Jedediah Jr.. He was portrayed by Bruce Spence in Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.
While crisscrossing the desert in his cart pulled by camels, Max is attacked by Jedediah who circulates aboard a mini-plane (model Transavia PL-12 Airtruk) with the complicity of his son who takes the handle of plane while Jedediah jumps from the plane onto the cart and grabs it. While pursuing his thieves, Max arrives in a town, Bartertown, literally "the town of barter", dedicated to commerce, which is governed by Entity.
Later Max and the Lost Tribe stumble upon Jedediah again as his son tries to flee them and the armed Bartertown convoy in pursuit of them and takes refuge in Jedediah's Safehouse. Jedediah will then have to help them, in spite of himself, by piloting his mini-plane in order to help the children to escape, while Max sacrifices himself by clearing the passage so that the plane can take off.
- There is debate amongst fans regarding whether Jedediah from Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome is also the Gyro Captain from Mad Max 2, as the actor Bruce Spence portrays the two characters, both of which having similar characteristics. George Miller has stated that they are in fact different characters altogether. The ending of The Road Warrior also states that the Gyro Captain became the leader of the Great Northern tribe. The Road Warrior novella reported that he then died felling wood in 2013.
