The Mad Max Wiki

Smeg is an antagonist featured in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. He is a gang member serving under Dementus in the Biker Horde. The character is potrayed by David Collins, most notably known from an Australian television series, The Upside Down Show.

Biography[]

Smeg, as he is known, serves Dementus in the capacity of a "Herald" or a "Crier" somewhat in the same capacity as Toadie to Humungus.

During the events of Furiosa, it is Smeg who announces Dementus on occasion, also acting out in a sort of pantomime as Dementus speaks. The motions he makes while Dementus is communicating is a bizarre way of translating how he feels, according to David Collins in the behind the scenes.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga[]

Smeg, as his moniker suggests, isn't a major character. However, he was one of the last seven remaining members of Dementus' Biker Horde after the "Forty-Day Wasteland War."

As the remaining seven were being hunted by the "Fifth Rider of the Apocalypse," better known as Furiosa, Dementus gave his cloak to Smeg to act as a decoy. Furiosa fell for the ploy and chased Smeg down on his motorcycle, chasing him right into a giant sinkhole that sucked Smeg down, killing him.

Trivia[]

  • In Mad Max: Fury Road, The Dag refers to Max Rockatansky as being "a crazy smeg who eats schlanger!"[1] It is not known currently if this character's name is an intentional reference.
  • Smeg dies in a giant sinkhole. Sinkholes and quicksand were first seen in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
  • David Collins also appeared in George Miller's previous film: Three Thousand Years of Longing as Ozmet the Jocular.[2]
  • In the actors workshop during pre-production of Furiosa as shown in BTS, David Collins said that Smeg is there "to help Dementus feel how he's feeling."
  • On the Thrash n' Treasure podcast, David Collins mentioned that Dementus treats Smeg like a dog, and as a result the actor suggested to George Miller that the character is introduced with Dementus petting him. Apparently it was one of the few times George Miller said no to an actors idea.
