Name change[]
Back when this article was created, the name was chosen from an almost out-of-universe perspective: the desert location Max explored technically WAS the Australian outback after all.
I believed that it was referred to "the outback" on at least one occasion, but I think it's referred to names such as "the wasteland" on more than one occasion? Other editors have described it as the wastes and the wasteland, so as admin I thought a poll would be the best way for the community to decide this article's future name.

Outback. Not Outback.[]
In the trivia section it says; "The first three films use the Australian outback as filming location .." This is incorrect. The first movie (Mad Max) was all shot in Melbourne and no location was more than 2hrs drive from the CBD. Even Max's beachside house is in Fairhaven which is only 90min from the city.
The majority of the film is shot around the western suburbs and outer suburban area of Melbourne and down towards Geelong (the freeway shots, Little River etc. When the bikies drag the kid on his back behind their bike, that is Clunes just outside of Ballarat.
This film is never in the outback. One would need to drive for two days to reach the outback from Melbourne.
