In an epic chase sequence in the 2015 smash hit, Mad Max: Fury Road, the cars drive into the Wasteland as mad twisters spawn, turning day to night.
Overview[]
Powerful storms are prevalent throughout the Mad Max Saga.
There are two powerful sand storms in Mad Max: Fury Road and the Mad Max video game. In Fury Road, Max goes through a massive sand storm while chained to Nux's car which chases the War Rig.
Storms types in the 2015 video game include a sandstorm and a lightning storm.
And in the 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road comic book series, our narrator, a History Man, tells the origin story of Immortan Joe. At then end, in an ominous bit of foreboding, he says, "Even now change is brewing . . . a storm comes."
Sandstorm[]
The Sandstorm is a rare Wasteland occurrence in the Mad Max game. It can appear at any unexpected moments. When a storm approaches, a "Storm Approaching Seek Shelter" will be shown. The storm mainly appears south of the map as a large dust cloud. Max can choose to outrun it, but if the storm reaches Max it will impair his vision. Not only will the player have to worry about their vision being reduced but the shear danger of the storm being large pieces of scrap metal being thrown by the storm. These can severely damage the Magnum Opus if struck by one. Hiding in any stronghold will cancel the storm.
Lightning Storm[]
The Lightning Storm is by far the deadliest storm in the game with not only impaired vision and scrap metal being flung but the random strikes of lightning being the most dangerous. This storm can show up like a Sandstorm but with bright flashes coming from within the storm. Lightning strikes can occur in quick strikes to long charging strikes. The quick strikes can strike around Max and unexpectedly directly on the Magnum Opus. The charging strikes are shown as a slowly brightening patch with sparks.
During the storm, special loot boxes called Mutha Loot Crates can be found being blown around by the storm. These can be collected but is suicide to attempt to claim the crate during a storm as the crate is constantly being moved by the storm and Max will only get hit by the crate. The crates are marked with unique scrap icons on the map and illuminating light on the crate. If Max ventures away from a crate it will de-spawn. but a new one will spawn as a replacement. it's advised to stay with crates until the storm ends. Max can latch onto one crate and take it to a save place to claim it but risks losing the other crates. After the storm Max must break open the crate. 3 small loot boxes appear containing 50 scrap(75 w/ perk) and 100(150 w/ perk).
Trivia[]
- Oddly, these storms can be bypassed if the player drives to the east or west of the storm fast enough and the storm will miss and continue to travel along the wasteland. It is unknown if this is a glitch.
- The Wasteland Storms may be a result of climate change or nuclear radiation or a combination thereof in the Mad Max universe.
